About

About the Curriculum

Sacred Hospitality is designed to deepen our understanding of how Christian values intersect with the complex issues surrounding migration and displacement. Rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, who calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves, this curriculum names the tenants of hospitality as mutual vulnerability, recognition, making room, and blessing, and explores these themes in the context of immigration. Through biblical exploration, personal stories, and reflective discussions, we seek to cultivate a compassionate and informed response to the experiences of immigrants and refugees in our world today.

This curriculum aims to empower participants to engage thoughtfully with the realities faced by migrants and asylum seekers, encouraging empathy, advocacy, and practical support within our communities. By examining the biblical stories and lessons of migration and displacement, and by listening to the voices of those directly impacted by these issues, we hope to inspire a spirit of welcome and solidarity that reflects the inclusive love of Christ for all people, regardless of nationality or background.

Liam Barr

My name is Liam Barr, and I am the organizer of the Sacred Hospitality curriculum. I am a graduate of the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX, and transitional deacon in the Episcopal Church. Throughout my time at seminary, I have worked closely with immigrant communities through working at a Spanish-speaking congregation and serving at a shelter for Asylum Seekers. Throughout these experiences, I have been continually blessed by immigrants. This curriculum is an attempt to extend this blessing to the greater church.
